HAPPY NEW YEAR - Carbon offsets for 2009

A whole new year begins and it is time for our New Year's resolutions. Slimming, exercising, recycling and reducing our carbon footprint.

Our ethics

We are committed to providing the highest quality of carbon offsets.

Our principle is to guarantee that each programme will sequester an amount of CO2 comparable or greater than that it must offset.

Our partners have the expertise to ensure the carbon-capture capacity of the tree planting and reforestation programmes and that all calculations are accurate.

Our projects are sourced from sustainable geographical locations, where carbon capture is optimal and where the benefits to ecosystems are the greatest.

We only fund projects that would not be going ahead through other funding sources. Our projects are ongoing, unique and their scale is determined by the amount of carbon offsets sold.

Our projects are verifiable, and each carbon offset is allocated a unique location and project. We are committed to an annual audit and appraisal to verify that the offset forecast is being met, and we are committed to inform our customers regularly of the progress of the projects.

Our guarantee requires a hands-on approach. We believe in managed forestry as the best form of carbon capture (as we illustrate in our tree cycle). This requires a regular replacement of damaged trees and continuous management to ensure that the offsets remain in place.

To reduce costs we do not purchase land or claim ownership of trees or forests. We do not believe in “gated” reforestation. We believe that the environment’s interests are best served by supporting and working alongside local communities, ensuring that the programmes run smoothly and allowing those who work the land to reap the benefits. Reforestation managed in this way is immensely beneficial to wildlife and restoring habitats and ecosystems.

We are committed to a prompt implementation and delivery of the offsets after purchase.
